What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to others?

There is no such thing as perfection, if you let your OCD take over you will never get your business idea off the ground. Whilst is may seem scary, launching a business idea before you are ready can often be the leap of faith you need. If you wait until your product feels perfect, someone else will already be doing a better job of helping your customers solve their problems. Validate your business idea by launching fast, bringing on a small group of paying customers and adapting to make your solution great for them over time.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years?

You don’t have to know it all or have all the answers. Focus on what you do best, you don’t have to wear every hat in your business in order for it to be successful, by contracting or hiring other that do what they do best strengthens your foundations to grow.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business?

Don’t be fooled by the latest “fad” tool. Whilst there are a plethora of resources and tools available do your homework and make sure it is right for you. For me, finding a tool that can help with automating my business system has been key as a solo-entrepreneur to reduce time wasted on mundane repetitive tasks.

What do you do for fun/relaxation?

I love to read. There is nothing quite as relaxing as becoming immersed in a good crime novel. You will also find me in the kitchen (kinda goes with the territory) I like to whip up everything from desserts to south east Asian based recipes, and a day of relaxation wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the beach with my furkid.

And something on the fun side of things, what’s your party trick?

Don’t laugh but I am a magnet for crabs – as in the real live ones (this size of your hand) , they seem to love my house and flock to my study in droves. My record is 18 in 2 weeks!
